The Mad Hatter is one of the members of the Mad Tea Party in the story of Alice in Wonderland. Although everyone calls him "The Mad Hatter", Lewis Carroll neve actually called him that. He is simply "The Hatter". The phrase 'mad as a hatter' was common in Carroll's time. 'Mad as a hatter' probably owes its origin to the fact that hatters actually did go mad sometimes due to the mercury they used.
Many wonder about the tag on the hat reading 10/6. It is in fact a price tag which displays the 'ten and six': 10 shillings and 6 pennies.
The highly detailed hat has a fringed iridescent scarf, striped fabric patch, 10/6 paper card , a printed peacock feather and a secret pouch on the inside. To ensure a good fit, this hat comes with a velcro size adjuster. It is made of 75% polyester and 25% cotton.
